9/5/2023 0 Comments Zen dac vs schiit stack![]() ![]() IMHO, if you don't want to spend another $150 ameribucks to complement, I wouldn't grab this unless for an investment. Amps will make them louder yes and can even blow a headphone(too much power from the volume knob being put too high) regular motherboards do not stand up to dac amps whatsoever. All in all, depends how deep you're wanting to go in this rabbit hole. Like 50 volume on a dac/amp setup will be louder than 50 volume on just a normal laptop dac/amp. An Aune for that price is pretty nice tbh, but it kinda demands an amp that can keep up with it. It also has Bluetooth LDAC capabilities and a remote. Getting a DX3 Pro+ will work pretty much the same - while also setting you up to build your own stack from there. TL DR - Zen DAC v2 is one of the best dac/amp combo's out there for it's price, especially for balanced audio. It also comes with a pretty loaded Bluetooth chip which is a nice bonus, and a remote. It misses out on the balanced outputs but makes up for it by the lack of compensation for neither DAC capabilities or amp. Topping DX3 Pro+ is honestly a great choice as well. I'd advise against the Aune x8 unless you have an amp to pair that with - or if you're willing to use RCA to 3.5mm female converters and keep your headphones plugged in through the back (Though as a fan of analog, I love that knob). A few birdies have told me that the amplifiers in those units were underwhelming to some but I think that's more subjective. Regardless of your stance on unbalanced vs balanced, just know only the Ifi Zen DAC v2 will allow you to do so - via a 4.4mm cable that costs arguably too much lol. One thing that stands out amongst the DAC's are that only the Ifi Zen v2 offers balanced output - though this is totally up to your personal taste. Which is a fantastic stack by the way - it's just tends to be a harder sell than another product that advertises both in one chassis. I hope I'm understanding your situation correctly but apologies if otherwise!ĭAC/Amp combo's have been surging as of late and honestly, as the tech keeps advancing, newer releases like the DX3 Pro+ will continue to succeed the more traditional stacks, e.g. ![]()
